We are deeply saddened by the passing of Chef Bob Carter, a beloved Charleston culinary legend whose impact on our community was both profound and lasting. As executive chef of the renowned Peninsula Grill from the late 1990s through 2011, Chef Carter played a key role in shaping Charleston’s national culinary reputation. His legacy also extended beyond the kitchen. In 1999, he founded the Lowcountry Food Bank’s Chefs’ Feast, a signature event that has raised vital funds to fight hunger in our region for 25 years. Chef Carter’s influence on Charleston’s food culture—and his spirit of generosity—will not be forgotten.
