✊🏾 May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month! We’re so happy to share that Tricia Charfauros’ recent blog post is now available on our website to read and listen to in CHamoru. 💡 As an Indigenous Dreamer and Daughter of Guåhan and the Philippines, Tricia paints a picture of the important relationship between Pacific Island Indigenous Peoples, the land, and water. This connection, also known as the land-water nexus, is believed to be the key to fighting climate change in the Pacific, something Pacific Island nations know a lot about as they face the brunt of climate change. 📕Read more about her experience with the impacts of climate change and what the international community is doing, and still has yet to do, to support Pacific Island nations: https://rightsandresources.org/blog/land-water-and-change-the-importance-of-intersectionality-and-unity-in-climate-justice-work/ *** Special thanks to Juan Cruz Quintanilla, Jr., Schyuler Elise Reyes Lujan, Ray C. Barcinas Jr., and the Lengguahi-ta Blog community for helping to make the CHamoru version of this blog post possible 🙌 #climatechange #pacificislands #environmentalist #philippines #activism #climateactivism (fb)

"Researchers and businesses who once came to our communities as friends later turned our shared knowledge into patents, claiming they had "discovered" what we had always known." In a new op-ed, RRI collaborator and Pankararu Indigenous leader Cristiane Julião talks about the scientific findings Indigenous communities make, and how they are taken without providing recognition. "This theft reflects a larger crisis — the erasure of Indigenous knowledge while biodiversity itself is under attack," states Julião. Read the op-ed: (fb)
