Good fortune to see two disassembled violins by Romeo Antoniazzi, Milano 1914 and 1912. Romeo Antoniazzi (1862–1925) was a prominent Italian violin maker from Cremona, belonging to the renowned Antoniazzi family of luthiers. The son of Gaetano Antoniazzi and brother of Riccardo, Romeo worked in several important workshops, including those of Leandro Bisiach and Monzino. His instruments vary in quality and style, reflecting the different phases of his career, but are generally admired for their strong personality and distinctive varnish—often golden to reddish-brown. Though sometimes hastily made, his violins are valued for their rich, powerful tone and are sought after by collectors and musicians alike. (fb)
