Our Mission To protect preserve and enhance the maritime cultureof Newport and Narragansett Bay by providing educationhospitality and safe haven for those who worklive and play on or by the sea. Serving Mariners and the Newport Community for Over 105 years Founded in 1919 Seamens Church Institute has been a vital sanctuary for those working at sea and along the waterfront with its iconic Georgianstyle building designed by Frederick Rhinelander King and funded in 1930 being a landmark listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Open yearround it serves around 50000 visitors annually from sea captains to community members in need. Volunteer and Membership at Seamens Church Institute Volunteering Opportunties We are actively seeking friendly volunteers to assist with maintaining our historic building and garden supporting community meals special events and various administrative tasks.
