Spruce Knoll, completed in 1996 and expanded in 2015, was designed as a woodland garden for cremated remains. Spruce Knoll’s canopy of spruce and pine trees create a cathedral-like setting while a succession of blooming perennials and large evergreen shrubs further enhance the woodland garden. Renowned Garden Designer Julie Moir Messervy, working closely with the horticultural staff of Mount Auburn, created Spruce Knoll for those who desire simplicity using nature as the primary memorial rather than an elaborate monument. In late May and early June find the bench hidden within the garden and experience the serenity of being encircled by beautiful blooming Rhododendrons all around. (fb)

As Preservation Month comes to an end, we are excited to share the progress on one of our most significant preservation projects to date—the Scots' Charitable Society Lot Fence. Our Preservation team visited Cassidy Bros. Forge in Rowley, MA earlier this month to review the repaired sections of the fence and a sample of a freshly painted corner post, seen here. Meanwhile, as the rest of the fence gets painted, new granite bases have been set on-site in anticipation of the fence's return. Reinstallation of the fence will occur in June and planting of Scottish-themed flora is planned for the fall. We cannot wait to welcome this restored piece of Mount Auburn home to honor the over 200 Scottish individuals interred within the lot.
