The Garden Club of America has just announced a new National Medal to be awarded for outstanding advocacy. Named in memory of Ellen Harvey “Ellie” Kelly, this award was funded by St. George’s Garden Club, her family, and friends to celebrate her lifetime of work for a healthier planet. A GCA member for over 60 years, Ellie’s advocacy was legendary—she: 🌿 Testified before Congress to expand Endangered Species Act protections 🏔️ As part of the Alaska Coalition, helped secure the passage of the1980 Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act which protected 104 million acres and created 10 new national parks 🌎 Co-founded the Coalition for Scenic Beauty (now Scenic America) to preserve natural beauty Ellie embodied the GCA’s mission of “bringing clubs together to cultivate the bond among people, plants, and the environment.” This medal ensures her legacy lives on! ✨ The Ellen Harvey Kelly Medal was designed by award-winning American figure sculptor Eugene Daub. #GCAMedals #environmentaladvocacy #eugenedaub (fb)
