Union Baptist Church

Union Baptist Church, located in East Killingly, Connecticut, has a rich history dating back to 1776, when the Baptist Society of Chestnut Hill was established. Over the years, this society evolved into two separate Baptist churches: the East Killingly Baptist Church and the East Killingly Free Will Baptist Church & Society. These two churches merged in November 1914 to form the Union Baptist Church of East Killingly[1].

The church's original building was constructed in 1776, and in 1835, a new church building was erected on the present site using materials from the original church. This location on Hartford Pike has been the home of the church ever since[1]. Through the late 1970s, Union Baptist Church served as a central gathering point for the community of East Killingly, hosting events like Memorial Day services[1].

Challenges and Revitalization

By the late 20th century, the church faced significant challenges, including membership decline due to demographic changes and internal disagreements. However, a dedicated group of members worked to revitalize the church. In the late 1990s, under the leadership of Rev. Bill Pearl and Rev. Colleen Pearl, the church underwent significant renovations and was rededicated on May 17, 1998[1].
