We’re heartbroken to share that Cowboy, one of our beloved warehouse cats, passed away peacefully in his sleep over the weekend. Cowboy hadn’t been with us long. He joined our FIDO Indy family in November after a client reached out about a sickly kitten trying to get inside her home. When we arrived, we found not a kitten, but a frail, elderly cat who desperately needed care and love. We gave him three baths to remove what seemed like a decade’s worth of flea dirt, and began treating him for severe anemia. Over the following months, Cowboy underwent eye removal surgery due to cancer and was being evaluated for other health concerns. Through it all, he remained sweet and affectionate. Cowboy had two great loves: food and people. He was always the first to check out whatever snacks were nearby, and never turned down a cuddle. His gentle, yet determined spirit made an impression on everyone who met him. Though his time with us was short, Cowboy quickly became part of the rhythm of our days. He welcomed visitors, followed staff and volunteers around, and soaked up every moment of attention he could get. This is the second loss of a warehouse cat we’ve experienced this month, and our hearts are heavy. Still, we are grateful that Cowboy spent his final months safe, warm, and loved.
