An Earth Day Special Event! Join Wolastoqey (Maliseet) educator, author, poet, and artist Mihku Paul accompanied by Maine Audubon educators as we celebrate our Earth! Why are trees important? Traditional Indigenous Knowledge tells us that trees are our cousins. We’ll look to the trees for inspiration as we come together for a trail walk, storytelling, art, and hands-on exploration. This event is best suited for children ages 3–9 and their families, and will take place outdoors rain or shine. We will start in our covered Outdoor Classroom and then take a short ~15 minute walk with a mild incline. Saturday, April 19, 10 am to noon at Maine Audubon's Gilsland Farm Audubon Center, 20 Gilsland Farm Road, Falmouth ME Register here: https://maineaudubon.org/events/mother-earth-says-witapehtipon-lets-be-friends/ (fb)

Many thanks to Ryan Munn at WGME WGME CBS 13 News, Portland for heading to Higgins Beach in Scarborough, and for interviewing Coastal Birds Project Director Laura Zitske to talk about Piping Plovers and how beachgoers can help protect the birds and the beaches this season. "The things we do to protect piping plovers, ultimately are protecting the beaches,” she says. (fb)
