Torrington Historical Society Incorporated

We are pleased to announce that the John Brown Birthplace is among 31 new listings added by the National Park Service to the National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom. It will join more than 800 sites, facilities and programs already in the network that provide insight into the diverse experiences of freedom seekers who bravely escaped slavery and the allies who assisted them. The John Brown Birthplace located on a 100 acre parcel in West Torrington and is owned by the Torrington Historical Society documents the 18th century anti-slavery forces prevalent in northwest Connecticut at the time of his birth in 1800 that shaped his family of origin.

We joined our city officials, legislators, businesses, and many other Torrington organizations in promoting many great things about our city including everyone who cares about its past and its future.
