Yesterday, Members of Congress Rep. Tom Suozzi (NY-03) and Rep. Laura Gillen (NY-04) convened local leaders for a press conference to address the budget reconciliation bill recently passed by the House of Representatives. The proposed budget package must still be approved by the Senate and signed by the president, but the proposed cuts have serious consequences for Medicaid and SNAP. Randi Shubin Dresner, president & CEO of Island Harvest, was invited to speak about the unprecedented impact these cuts would have on efforts to end hunger on Long Island, as well as the broader economic consequences for our region. Randi asked the important question: “Why are the most vulnerable in our communities seemingly always the easy targets?” The stakes are high, and it’s critical to stay informed about how these decisions will affect our community members who are most vulnerable, as well as the broader economic impact on Long Island businesses.
