Art Enrichment Grant: Inspiring Young Musicians 🎹 Thanks to an Art Enrichment Grant, students at Providence Elementary School had the opportunity to explore the world of music through piano keyboards in Terra Spillman’s classroom. "Having access to piano keyboards allowed my students to reach two goals: One was mastering basic music concepts through playing an instrument. The second was fostering a love for music that might inspire them to continue playing on their own or even join band in middle school." said Terra, the music teacher at PES. Both goals were achieved as students from Kindergarten through 5th grade learned to play multiple songs, identify key patterns, and develop essential music reading and listening skills. Many students were so inspired that they began practicing at home, sharing their progress with their families. For some, this experience has sparked a deeper interest in music education. Fifth graders showed enthusiasm about continuing music in middle school, asking questions about piano, guitar, and band classes.
