Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), commonly referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a rapidly progressive, invariably fatal neurological disease that attacks the nerve cells (neurons) responsible for controlling voluntary muscles. Lou Gehrig faced ALS with unwavering courage, leaving an enduring legacy of toughness and grace. Today, we also stand in solidarity with every individual currently battling ALS, and we remember those who have bravely fought and passed away from this devastating disease.
