Did you know a fisher cat isn't really a cat at all?🐾 So what is it? 💡The fisher is a large member of the weasel family, and known for being a cunning predator. Like all carnivores, the fisher plays a critical role on the landscape. Its diet includes snowshoe hare, rabbit, rodents, and birds. Widely found in the Northeast and across the United States and Canada, the fisher prefers old-growth habitats. 🎥: A fisher bounding through the snowy forest, wildlife cam video by NEWT friend Eric Perkins. @ericjperkins72 #wildlifephotography #wildlife #northeast #landtrust #conservation #rewildthenortheast (fb)

🦫🌲Busy beavers at NEWT's Woodbury Mountain Wilderness Preserve in Vermont Last spring, Wildlands Ecologist Jason Mazurowski watched as beavers returned to an alder swamp on the Preserve. Mazurowski documented with a wildlife camera the way the beavers transformed the landscape. "Within days, a former puddle was a knee-deep pond attracting Wood Ducks and Great Blue Herons; within weeks, the beavers had removed enough alders that I could put in a canoe and paddle around. The chorus of spring peepers eventually gave way to the croaks of bullfrogs, dragonflies filled the evening sky, and brook trout darted beneath my boat. The dam itself became a hotspot for wildlife, with raccoons, black bears, and flying squirrels all visiting to investigate the new landscape feature." 🔗To learn more about these furry engineers head to: https://newildernesstrust.org/how-beavers-rewilding-allies-transform-the-landscape/ (fb)
