“If you want to have a more peaceful and reflective world, you yourself need to become more peaceful and reflective…but the change begins with us.” Héctor Alvarez is an interdisciplinary artist who explores memory through performance, theater, film, and contemporary opera. His multimedia project, “Chronicles of the Perfect Fascist Village,” delves into his family’s past and examines the erasure of violence in Spain during the process of healing from the atrocities of Franco’s dictatorship. Héctor loves that his work allows him to spend much of his time in the realm of imagination and possibility, bringing those discoveries back to his community. He hopes that his work can foster dialogue and reconciliation on the topic of democracy in Spain.
