Commencement is a time for reflection and excitement and, let's face it, a whole range of emotions! But it's also a time to be "proud," said Sarah Bagdon '25, the student speaker at this year's Asian and Pacific Islander Graduate Celebration — and a Creative Writing major at Saint Mary’s. On May 17, students and loved ones filled the Chapel to commemorate their unique trajectories. "I am a proud, first-generation, Filipina-American graduate of Saint Mary’s College of California," Bagdon told her fellow graduates. "And you all should be proud of being able to stand here." Since 2002, this event hosted by the Intercultural Center at SMC, has recognized the achievements and experiences of Asian, Asian American, and Pacific Islander Gaels.
