RANGELEY REGION GUIDES’ & SPORTSMAN’S ASSN SPECIAL INVITATION TO ALL THOSE WHO HAVE NOTED THEIR PRIMARY INTEREST IN THE RIFLE/PISTOL RANGE RRG&SA is working to upgrade and bring needed improvements to our Rifle/Pistol Range located on the Morton Cut Off Road in Lower Cupsuptic Twp. The Range sustained much damage during last fall and winter storm events. The canopies need to be replaced, benches leveled and a handicap platform built to start. Leveling most likely will require additional fill. Target stands need to be made and the range needs to be marked for 25, 50, 75, 100yd targets and Pistol for 25 and 50yd markings. Signage needs posting. With the very high usage, we need to make sure our range is safe for all shooters. Craig Gerry, MDIFW’s Statewide Shooting Range Coordinator will be visiting our Range on May 15th. He will also be our guest speaker at our evening Potluck Supper Social. Craig will be presenting suggestions and outlining steps needed to ensure safety at our Range. He will also provide recommendations to move into a more formal shooting program at RRG&SA. We need volunteers to help with maintenance, volunteers interested in training and live fire instruction. Also to conduct classes on “Know Your Gun”, Fundamentals of Pistols, Rifles and Shotguns, Safe gun handling, care and storage, Instruction for beginners to advance shooters, etc.. Have the interest but need the training?? We can help with that. We will sponsor classes at our Campus to train instructors and eventually have volunteers trained and certified as Range Safety Officers (RSO’s) Our long-term goal is to have competition shooting events such as those offered by the American Rimfire Association (ARS) or from many other similar organizations. Organized Shooting is a fast -growing sport not only in the U.S. but in Maine as well. Organized shooting is becoming as popular as hunting itself. We welcome this sport as it keeps people engaged with their guns and maintaining their shooting skills. We now have a purpose beyond sampling grabbing our guns once a year to sight it in or to target practice once in a while. WE NEED YOU!!!!! Without showing your interest or becoming involved, our goals and desires cannot happen, Come join us at the Monthly Potluck Supper Social on May 15th at our Clubhouse. Doors open at 5pm. We will have a signup for workdays and there to seek your input and ideas. Together, we can build a wonderful fun program. See you all on May 15th. Sonny Pierce President, RRGSA (fb)
