On Tuesday, April 1, 2025, the Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department (@lawrencecedarhurstfiredept) took a special moment during its monthly meeting to honor County Executive Bruce Blakeman (@bruceblakeman) with an honorary helmet and uniform shirt. The chiefs, officers, and members presented him with the custom helmet, featuring a personalized shield. County Executive Blakeman, a longtime friend of the department, shared that this was the first fire helmet he had ever received and that it had always been a dream of his to have one. As he expressed his gratitude to the department, thanking the members for their service and dedication to the community, the meeting took an unexpected but fitting turn. A call came in reporting a fire, and the department immediately sprang into action, demonstrating firsthand the speed and efficiency with which they respond. Fortunately, the incident turned out to be an electrical issue rather than a working fire, but it did require a visit from PSEG to take corrective action. The situation served as a real-time example of the department’s readiness and professionalism in handling emergencies. Breaking from the usual course of business for the presentation was a meaningful way for the department to show appreciation for Blakeman’s support and friendship. His visit was a reminder of the strong bonds between the fire department and the community, and the members were honored to share this experience with him. MUTUAL AID FIRE/RESCUE, LADDER at 5 CHARLES CT, VALLEY STREAM c/s: FLETCHER AVE . . 13:27:09 At 1:20 PM on Wednesday, March 27, 2025, the Valley Stream Volunteer Fire Department (@valleystreamfiredepartment) was alerted to a report of a basement fire in a home on Charles Court. Upon arrival, additional reports indicated a possible occupant still inside the residence. Chief of Department Anthony Capone (3400) arrived on the scene and advised incoming units of smoke showing from the front door. Firefighters located the fire in the basement and assisted one resident out of the home with assistance from first-arriving units and Nassau County Police (@nassaucountypd). A working fire was transmitted, bringing in mutual aid from surrounding departments. Two handlines were stretched and put into operation to extinguish the fire, which had extended to the first floor through a pipe chase. Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department Ladder Co. 325 (@lawrencecedarhurstfiredept) was requested to respond as the FAST truck. Three civilians were treated for smoke inhalation at the scene.
