NYMC New York Marble Cemetery The New York Marble Cemetery established in 1830 is the oldest public nondenominational cemetery in the city. This small garden is hidden in the interior of the block accessible through two sets of iron gates via a 100foot private alley. Surrounded by 12foot Tuckahoe marble walls it is only partially visible from Second AvenueThere are no individual markers on the lawn however marble plaques in the walls bear the names of the original owners. Their 156 underground vaults burial chambers are sealed and information about 2000 deceased New Yorkers is detailed in the Cemeteryx27s records.
