PTA New York Congress

The PTA New York Congress is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting educational and charitable activities to benefit teachers, students, and families. It operates as a 501(c)(3) organization with a focus on promoting the welfare of children and youth in various settings including home, school, and community.

History and Background

The New York State Congress of Parents and Teachers, known as the PTA New York Congress, traces its origins to the late 19th century. It was initially organized in October 1897, becoming the first state branch of the National Congress of Parents and Teachers. The organization went through several name changes and incorporations during its early years:

• Incorporated in 1899 as The Mothers’ Assembly of the State of New York.
• Reincorporated in 1920 as the New York State Congress of Mothers’ and Parent-Teacher Associations.
• In 1925, the name was changed to the New York State Congress of Parents and Teachers, Inc.[1]

Mission and Purpose

The PTA New York Congress aims to:

• Promote the welfare of children and youth at home, in school, and within the community.
• Raise standards of home life.
• Secure adequate laws for the care and protection of children and youth.
• Bring into closer relation the home and the school so that parents and teachers may cooperate intelligently in the education of children
