We love getting updates to share with all of our members, who contribute to the continued support of our schools. …. Dear Members of the Harvard Schools Trust, On behalf of our students and faculty who went to see The Odyssey at the A.R.T. earlier this month, we wanted to extend our gratitude for your generous support in funding our field trip. The performance was an engaging and thought-provoking reimagining of the epic poem we’ve been examining in our ninth grade Introduction to Literature classes this year. Kate Hamill’s adaptation challenged our students to consider not only the traditional hero’s journey, but also to think about the ways in which history and mythology are told—and retold—over time. Many students picked up on the production’s feminist lens, which gave voice to Penelope and other female characters from The Odyssey in ways that the original text left out. This perspective led to interesting classroom discussions about whose stories get preserved and how narratives evolve (fb)
