Before break, Kindergarteners kicked off their “How-To” writing unit with a special grade-wide activity: making the beloved Chapin brownie! Because the unit focuses on sequential writing, with students learning to give step-by-step instructions, making brownies together served as a fun, hands-on experience to inspire our girls’ writing. Next, the Class of 2037 will write how-to books for future Kindergarteners to help them learn about the various student jobs and routines at school. (fb)

During a recent math class, members of our Upper School Investment Club led a budgeting activity for Class 6 students. Each group was given a fictitious persona with an occupation and salary, number of kids, mandatory yearly payments (loans, taxes, etc.) and more. The Middle Schoolers were tasked with calculating 20% of their money and saving that amount. The US students also provided a handout with pricing for cars, homes, sports equipment, vacations, etc. for students to see what they could potentially purchase while staying within their budget. (fb)
