Achieving disaster resiliency from preparedness to mitigation. SAFER services the entire population of St. Lucie County, FL and its' almost 300,000 residents without discrimination and with a special emphasis on vulnerable populations such as th elderly, impoverished, disabled and children. SAFER is a non-profit coalition of over 35 faith-based, business, non-profit and local business entities that are all active in the disaster cycle. SAFER acts as a coordinating agency that provides a seamless level of services to area residents while eliminating duplication of services. To date, SAFER, through its' coordination of volunteers and partner agencies has provided services such as home repair or mitigation of future damages by shuttering, assisting with funding for upgrades and etc for over 1450 impoverished, disabled or elderly residents. SAFER's educational component has educated over 15,000 area residents since July 2015 alone! SAFER has placed a special emphasis on educating the impoverished, the disabled and the elderly by participating in numerous informational fairs and giving disaster preparedness presentations that are specific to their needs, such as disaster preparedness on a budget, use of sign language interpreters for teaching the deaf and special courses for the elderly.SAFER provides monthly meetings where member agencies are encouraged to share information so that the maximum amount of collaboration and collaboration can be achieved, as well as high quality training for all member agencies. With an active and dedicated board of directors, only one paid staff and access to over 1,000 volunteers, SAFER is a very cost-effective organization.
