AFHU joins the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in expressing its profound sorrow over the loss of Israeli embassy staff members, Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgrim. On Thursday, May 21, Yaron and Sarah's lives were taken during an attack in Washington, DC. We extend our deepest sympathies to their families and loved ones during this tragic time. Yaron graduated from Hebrew University in 2021 with a B.A. in International Relations and Asian Studies. Our community deeply feels his loss. May their memory be a blessing. (fb)

🐝 This week, we marked #WorldBeeDay, and on that occasion, we’re spotlighting Hebrew University alum Eliyah Radzyner, whose journey from student to sustainability innovator is helping protect one of the planet’s most vital pollinators. While studying agroecology and sustainable agriculture at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Radzyner fell in love with the complex world of honeybees. “They have personalities, they make complex decisions, they regulate their hive’s temperature—just like we regulate our own bodies,” he says. While working as a commercial beekeeper after graduation, Radzyner watched as hive after hive collapsed. Despite his best efforts, he was no match for the mites, pesticides, pathogens, poor nutrition, and extreme weather that plague honeybees. Radzyner realized that computers can do a better job at protecting bees and got to work. “By utilizing modern technology, we can build a tool to help beekeepers save their bees,” he explains. Radzyner teamed up with fellow Hebrew University alum Hallel Schreier, and tech entrepreneurs Saar Safra, Yossi Sorin, and Boaz Peterzil to found Beewise, a company using AI-powered BeeHomes to protect colonies and reduce bee deaths by up to 70%. These smart hives use robotic arms, computer vision, and real-time monitoring to support bee health and help ensure the future of global agriculture. From Hebrew University labs to hives across the world, Radzyner proves that innovative thinking—rooted in care and curiosity—can give our planet’s pollinators a fighting chance. (fb)
