We hope that you will join us for BYSO on Parade on April 13th at 1:30pm at Symphony Hall. This exciting performance features ALL of our BYSO musicians! One of our ensembles playing in this performance is our Junior Repertory Orchestra (JRO). The young JRO musicians, conducted by Yonah Zur, will be performing Lysenko’s Overture to Taras Bulba. JRO is a full symphonic ensemble in which members receive group and individual coaching which enables them to build solid fundamental technical and musical skills. Members participate in regular musicianship classes where they explore fundamentals through singing, body percussion, and critical listening exercises in group and individual coaching sessions. The opportunity to make music away from the particular technical demands of their instruments continues to be enlightening and essential to the students’ musical growth. We were thrilled to recently open the doors to our home, the BYSO Youth Center for Music, on Saturday, March 15th for our inaugural Spring Fanfare! This event allowed us to welcome all of our communities and the public to our beloved building in the heart of Boston. The exciting afternoon included a percussion workshop filled with music making, instrument demonstrations and hands-on experiences by our student musicians, impressive chamber music performances, an ICP information session, a playful Dalcroze workshop, and much more.
