The Missouri Korean War Veterans Memorial is a prominent memorial located in Washington Square Park, Kansas City, Missouri. It serves as the official Korean War memorial for the state, dedicated to honoring the legacy of Korean War veterans and those who made the ultimate sacrifice during the conflict.

History and Dedication

The memorial was dedicated on September 28, 2011, to commemorate the sacrifices of over 900 Missourians who lost their lives in the Korean War. In 2020, it was officially recognized by the Missouri State Legislature as the state's official Korean War Veterans Memorial through Senate Bill 656.

Design and Features

The memorial is constructed from interlocking Tilt-Up concrete panels, providing both shade and shelter for visitors while offering a significant degree of transparency. The exterior walls feature a rough texture from local aggregate in the concrete mixture, while the interior walls are highly polished, serving as a backdrop for plaques that list Missourians who died in the war, organized by military branch.

Mission

The primary mission of the memorial is to perpetuate the legacy of Korean War veterans, both past and present, and to honor those from Missouri who gave their lives defending South Korea against the threats of communism during the Korean War (1950-1953).

Recognition and Funding

The memorial was made possible through private donations and land graciously donated by the Kansas City Parks and Recreation department. It continues to serve as a symbol of remembrance and tribute to the sacrifices of those involved in the Korean War.
