Emanuel Swedenborg born in 1688 in Stockholm underwent a profound spiritual transformation in the mid1740s that reshaped his lifes work. Initially a respected scientist and thinker Swedenborgs journey took a dramatic turn following a series of mystical visions and dreams. He claimed to have conversations with angels and spirits culminating in a vision of Christ in 1745 which he saw as a divine mandate to write about spiritual matters.
