He received his PhD inbiological anthropologyfromHarvard Universityin 1989 and was professor of anthropology at theUniversity of California Santa Barbara. Tooby and Cosmides also cofounded and codirected the UCSBCenter for Evolutionary Psychology and jointly received the 2020Jean Nicod Prize.
