📝First Grade Authors’ Tea 🎤 Last week, our first-graders at St. Michael’s Country Day School took center stage at the First Grade Authors’ Tea, an annual milestone that highlights their growth as confident communicators. Throughout this creative writing journey, our young authors studied mentor texts like The Snow Child and All You Need for a Snowman to understand storytelling structure. They crafted their own snow sock characters, brainstormed ideas, and used story maps to build engaging narratives with clear beginnings, middles, and ends. After refining their writing with descriptive language and proper punctuation, they practiced reading aloud with guidance from our drama teacher, Christy Johnston, who helped them project their voices and build confidence for their big debut. At the Authors’ Tea, our first-graders courageously read their published stories to peers, their seventh-grade buddies, and proud family members. With encouragement from their older buddies, they shined as confident public speakers — a vital skill that prepares them to be world-ready. We are so proud of our students for embracing this challenge with bravery and creativity.
