Enjoy the sounds of the past through classic songs as Curatorial Registrar, Chet, performs your favorite musical creations of the time on Mina Edison’s 1932 George Steck piano in the Edison Guest House today at 1 p.m.! Music was very important to the Edison family and Thomas and Mina’s son, Charles, played the piano throughout his life. Their love of music was inspired by Mina Edison, who studied music and the classics at Miss Abby H. Johnson’s Home and Day School for young ladies with a professor of harmony at the New England Conservatory of Music. These performances are Wednesdays at 1p.m. at the Edison Guest home. The Desert Rose (Adenium obesum) is known for its vibrant, fragrant flowers, which are typically red or pink. They can be up to 3 inches in diameter per flower and are trumpet-shaped with five pedals that are arranged to almost look like a star. It is unique with its thick succulent, trunk and thin and delicate leaves. The Desert Rose is a slow growing plant that is native to Africa, the Middle East and Madagascar. In a tropical climate like Florida it is a popular decorative outdoor plant, but in a cooler climate, it is grown indoors. We have the Desert Rose in a few locations on our site, but this particular fiery bloom is located along the walkway to the Edison property from the McGregor main gate. (fb)
