Last week, 19 community members completed the Mental Health First Aid Certificate class. Participants learned about the warning signs and how to identify when someone is experiencing a mental health crisis. They learned about ways they could guide someone struggling with mental health or substance use. Each participant was celebrated with a ceremony and certificate awarded by the National Council for Mental Wellbeing. Active and intentional listening are critical life skills. Our catalyst students practiced these skills by moving through stations with other students and conversing about their least favorite food. At the end of the stations, our students competed to determine who retained the most information and details due to their active and intentional listening skills. Active listening involves fully engaging with a speaker by paying close attention, showing interest through nonverbal cues, asking clarifying questions, and reflecting on what you've heard to ensure understanding. Listening skills will help our students complete college or job interviews in the near future and build stronger relationships in their everyday lives! 👂🗣️ — La escucha activa e intencional es una habilidad fundamental para la vida. Nuestros estudiantes catalizadores practicaron estas habilidades recorriendo las estaciones con otros estudiantes y conversando sobre su comida menos favorita. Al final de las estaciones, compitieron para determinar quién retenía más información y detalles gracias a su escucha activa e intencional. La escucha activa implica conectar plenamente con el orador prestando atención, mostrando interés mediante señales no verbales, haciendo preguntas aclaratorias y reflexionando sobre lo escuchado para asegurar la comprensión.
