The Youth Advocacy Foundation (YAF) supports programs providing legal representation and community services to court-involved youth. The Youth Advocacy Foundation, Inc. (YAF) works to ensure equitable access to quality education and THE MISSION OF THE YOUTH ADVOCACY FOUNDATION (YAF) IS TO END THE SCHOOL-TO-PRISON PIPELINE IN MASSACHUSETTS BY ENSURING THAT OUR STATE'S MOST VULNERABLE CHILDREN RECEIVE A QUALITY EDUCATION THROUGH EXPERT LEGAL ADVOCACY. BY ENVISIONING A FUTURE IN WHICH ALL YOUTH ENJOY THE FULL RIGHTS AND PROTECTIONS OF A FAIR AND EQUITABLE JUSTICE SYSTEM, YAF WORKS TO DECREASE THE RISK OF CHRONIC COURT INVOLVEMENT AND TO INCREASE THE CHANCE THAT YOUNG PEOPLE GROW INTO HEALTHY, THRIVING ADULTS THROUGH ZEALOUS LEGAL REPRESENTATION, VIBRANT COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICES, AND EQUITABLE ACCESS TO QUALITY EDUCATION. YAF'S EDLAW PROJECT HAS BEEN IN EXISTENCE SINCE 2001 AND HAS PROVIDED DIRECT REPRESENTATION TO OVER 1,800 CHILDREN.

Youth Advocacy Foundation Home About Us YAF Initiatives News and Advocacy Events Resources Support Us Contact Us More The movement of the EdLaw attorneys into CPCS has allowed YAF to focus on the next generation of schooltoprison pipeline disruption initiatives including providing socialservice support for our education clients assisting our clients facing emergency needs that are interfering with their ability to succeed in school funding legal and technology tools aswell as paralegal and intake support for the EdLaw attorneys and attacking the racial class and ethnic disparities we see in education family regulation policing and the judicial andyouth detention systems. Children and youth who are given a meaningful opportunity to succeed in school are overwhelmingly likely to go to college andor into the work force. Equitable education for all leads to a substantial reduction in the number of people imprisoned in our state and nation and to pathways out of poverty for families and communities of color. As we fight for education equity for the most vulnerable children in the state your continued support iscritical.

Juneteenth, observed on June 19th each year, marks the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, learned of their freedom — more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Today, it serves as a time for reflection, education, and celebration of Black history and culture. As we honor the progress that has been made, we also recognize the ongoing fight for racial justice — including the critical work still needed to ensure students of color receive an equitable education.

Big changes are coming to how schools in Massachusetts use time-out and seclusion. The Board of Elementary and Secondary Education just approved new regulations that clarify and update how these practices can be used—and ensure stronger protections for students. 🔒 Time-out must now happen in spaces that are unlocked and allow students to leave freely.
