This bold medieval keep may look forbidding, but inside it’s full of art and riches – not to mention intriguing tales. Alloa tower dates back to the 14th century and was built to guard a strategically important ferry crossing on the nearby River Forth. It became the ancestral seat of the Erskine family, the Earls of Mar and Kellie. This family have played a pivotal part in Scotland’s history through the centuries and were loyal supporters of the Stuart monarchs. Mary, Queen of Scots and her son, James VI, both spent part of their childhoods here under the guardianship of the Erskine family. Alloa Tower was lavishly updated by John Erskine, 6th Earl of Mar, who created an 18th-century mansion within the ancient walls! #ForTheLoveOfScotland #NTSUSA #Scotland #AlloaTower #ScottishHistory #ScottishArchitecture (fb)

Our 2025 Gala was not only a gathering of Scots and Scottish allies- it was also a grand celebration of Scotland's rich heritage and culture! Traditional music, dance, and cuisine were highlights of the night, enjoyed by both those familiar with them, and those experiencing them for the very first time. The relationship between people who love Scotland and the place itself – is at the heart of our work. Whether it’s Scots living in America, Americans who have studied or worked abroad, individuals who have Scottish ancestry, or first-time visitors, we connect our members and donors with the landscapes that have captured their imagination and that pull them back again and again. With events like our annual gala we are reminded about the significance of place, connection, and belonging in our lives.
