For 12 years, United Way’s AmeriCorps Program supported over 3,400 multilingual learners in Lynn, Salem, and Gloucester—offering steady support and helping build bridges in and out of the classroom. This was made possible by 179 Fellows and more than 260,000 hours of service. We had hoped for a planned farewell—but instead joined the unexpected national winddown of more than 1,000 AmeriCorps programs. It’s not the ending we imagined, but the legacy lives on—in every student supported, every relationship built, and every community strengthened. At Horizons for Homeless Children, Family Advocate Teresa Harris is more than a guide—she’s a mentor, a cheerleader, and a steadfast believer in every family’s potential. Supporting 25–30 families at a time, Teresa helps them navigate their journey from early childhood through the transition to kindergarten. Using tools like Pathways to New Horizons, she empowers parents to set and achieve goals in key areas like family stability, well-being, finances, education, and employment. Through every goal, every challenge, and every success, Teresa helps families move from “surviving” to “thriving.” This work isn’t just a job for Teresa; it’s a deep passion.
