Architecture Resource Center (ARC) programs show students how to use what they're learning in the real world.The mission of the Architecture Resource Center is to improve creative and problem-solving skills in K-12 students through the principles of:ArchitectureUrban DesignInterior DesignLandscape ArchitectureEngineeringIndustrial DesignGraphic Design Our intent is to provide K-12 students a heightened appreciation of how architecture and design relate to the world around them and to empower them with 21st-century skills and a problem-solving framework that can be applied in every aspect of learning and life. ARC creates participatory and hands-on programs that:Reinforce students’ learning through applied science, technology, engineering and mathematical (STEM) conceptsStimulate and foster critical, creative and problem-solving skills for students and teachersEstablish partnerships among families, schools, communities and businessesEncourage meaningful design programs as part of basic educationIn using architecture and design as a springboard to STEM learning, ARC programs offer a unique opportunity to students and educators in that it:Uses design as a thinking model, a method of solving problems paralleling the engineering process.Brings in elements of architecture and engineering to enhance math and science concepts students are already learning.Allows application of curricular concepts for authentic learning.Integrates art, so that design-based thinking becomes a mode of thought across many subjects (transforming STEM into STEAM).Incorporates 21st century skills of collaboration, creativity, communication, and critical thinking.Makes connections to daily life, building on students' existing knowledge.Allows students to approach learning through varied learning styles and abilities.

Architecture Resource Center ARC DESIGN EDUCATION What is ARC. The Architecture Resource Center ARC creates handson K12 classroom workshops and textbooks teaching design thinking and creative problemsolving. The Architecture Resource Center uses building construction and design activities as a way for students to apply science technology engineering mathematics STEM subjects social studies and art being taught at their grade level. It was fun because we all had jobs to do and we all worked together to make beautiful stuff.
