🐱Kitten season is upon us here in rural New Hampshire and we rely on the community to help keep vulnerable new babies safe from both predators and the elements. As a community member the best way to help is to be aware of your personal surroundings and to share this information. This is especially relevant if you live in community style housing or have outbuildings. 🐾 Think You’ve Spotted a Stray Cat? Here’s What to Do! 🐾 Have you seen a cat lingering around your yard or neighborhood and wondering if it’s lost or in need? Not all outdoor cats are strays — but some definitely need help. Here’s how to tell the difference, and what you can do to help: Signs the Cat May Be a Stray: • Seems friendly or timid, may meow at you or approach slowly • Follows people, hangs around porches, or tries to sneak inside • Appears dirty, skinny, or injured • Lacks a collar or ID tag (but this isn’t always a guarantee) 🐈⬛ If you think the cat may be homeless or in danger, here’s how to safely help: 🎯 Humane Trapping Tips: 1. Borrow or rent a humane trap (we can help with that, give us a call) 2. Use strong-smelling food like canned tuna or sardines 3. Place the trap in a quiet, safe spot and monitor it closely 4. Once trapped, cover the trap with a blanket or towel to help calm the cat ☎️Give us a call so we will be ready to accept the cat here at Lakes Region Humane Society where it will be scanned for a microchip and posted on line. If no owner can be found, we’ll work to find the best next steps — whether that’s a temporary foster home, adopting to a great new family or enrolling the cat in our barn cat program. ❤️ Together, we can make the Lakes Region safer for every cat — from cuddly companions to elusive outdoor wanderers. 📞 Have questions or need help trapping a stray? Call us at [(603) 539-1077] or see our website for additional reference material. #LakesRegionHumaneSociety #StrayCats #HelpStrays #CatRescue #CommunityCats (fb)
