After two months of total blockade, Israeli authorities allowed a handful of humanitarian aid trucks to enter Gaza yesterday. This is nowhere near the 500-600 trucks needed daily to address emergency hunger, injury, trauma, and shelter needs. Like many of you, we’re hearing news about Israel’s plans to take over aid distribution in Gaza, in coordination with the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation. Let us be clear: ONLY the UN and its humanitarian partners have the expertise, capacity, and moral clarity to deliver aid at the scale needed to save lives in Gaza. UNRWA has a plan—and with its partners, enough food to serve the one million people sitting at the border. UNRWA just needs to be allowed to do its job.
