Photographer & educator @Sean_Sirota shares thoughts behind his process working with 4x5 and a couple of prints from his ongoing project Southern Shore. Sean will also be teaching our upcoming Intro to Large Format Photography class on May 31st & June 1st, where students will learn—start to finish—how to operate a 4x5 camera, load film holders, compose and properly expose images, develop negatives, and make contact prints in the darkroom. Perfect for those curious about large-format photography, this class provides the technical skills and hands-on experience to begin exploring this rewarding medium. 🗓️ Join us next Thursday, May 29th, at 7pm, for A Lecture in Two Acts with artists @Sandra.Erbacher and Ruth Estévez (@ruthaestevez)! A Lecture in Two Acts brings together Estévez and Erbacher in a live lecture performance that explores how archives can be reactivated through embodied research and the critical use of montage. Moving between historical fragments and performative gestures, the artists examine how documents speak—not only as singular records of the past but as unstable, layered sites of meaning, shaped by context, interpretation, and the material conditions of their reappearance. Through a choreography of images, texts, and ruptured timelines, Estévez and Erbacher reveal distinct yet overlapping methodologies that disturb linear historiography and make room for embodied memories, affective resonances, and speculative remappings of the past. This event is free and open to the public and will be held in Penumbra’s Highlight Studios. RSVP through the link in bio. Image: Ruth Estevez and Sandra Erbacher, Performative Research Still, 2025.
