Rhode Island Minority Police Association

The Mission of the Rhode Island Minority Police Association is three-fold. First, as an organization representing the needs and concerns of law enforcement personnel, we are ever watchful of issues which have a directed impact, both adverse and positive, on the employment, promotion and retention of minority law enforcement officers in every facet of the Criminal Justice System. Whether they be employed in traditional or non-traditional agencies, it behooves us to provide guidance, support, and assistance in their efforts for equality of employment in their chosen field. We are dedicated to the task of improving the individual proficiency of our members in the performance of their activities among law enforcement officers; encouraging legislative, social, charitable and educational activities and change for and amongst minority law enforcement; and to increase the efficiency of the law enforcement profession and thus more firmly establish the confidence of the public in the service. Secondly, as a community oriented organization, we have both a responsibility and an obligation to the members of the minority community state-wide, whom we serve. We are responsible to them for being both the conscience and guardians of the Criminal Justice System, and ensuring that all members of the community are treated Justly, Fairly, and EQUALLY. We are further obligated to them to increase the awareness of the community, and to enhance the quality of life in the African American community. Finally, we are committed to the education of our youth, as it is they who must, and shall, reap the benefits of our labors. Only through education can the children of our community be provided with the resources to overcome cultural inaptitude and racial ignorance. It is only through education that they, and we, may embrace those methods which will make us stronger in both mind and spirit, and to bring about the changes which must come.
