Built in 1926, the nonprofit Crandell Theatre is the area's oldest and largest single-screen movie theater. The Crandell is currently undergoing a major renovation and restoration project - just in time for its 100th anniversary. The Crandell Theatre aims to promote and develop an appreciation of film and filmmaking that enriches the social, cultural, and educational experience of the community, family life, and individuals. Screening mainstream and independent films, we operate and maintain a 1926 historic movie house on Chatham’s Main Street, which also happens to be the oldest and largest single-screen movie theatre in Columbia County. FilmColumbia, Crandell Theatre’s signature program, is an annual ten-day festival of world-class films representing major studios, independents, international films, animated features, documentaries and children’s short films. In addition to screening approximately 50 films, the festival also features panels, Q&A sessions with filmmakers and a popular screenwriting workshop.
