We know we are not the only ones who are infuriated that scammers will often prey on our most vulnerable populations. Let's spread awareness to keep these scammers from profiting. (fb)
WALDO COUNTY ACTION PARTNERS STATEMENT ON FEDERAL ACTION ON ENERGY ASSISTANCE AND HEAD START Waldo County Action Partners (WCAP) has learned that all Federal Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) staff are no longer with the United States Department of Health and Human Services. Additionally, we have learned that the regional Head Start Office in Boston, which serves all of New England, has been closed. This is very concerning, but we are uncertain about the administration’s long-term plans for either program. We are working with state partners, MaineHousing, and our Congressional Delegation to obtain answers. In the short term, in relation to the Home Energy Assistance Program, all current applications for this program year will continue to be processed as planned, since funding for those applications remains available. As previously announced, all applications received through March 28 will be processed initially, with applications received after March 28 being placed on a waiting list. The Home Energy Assistance Program is a vital lifeline for thousands of Waldo County residents, including seniors on fixed incomes, individuals with disabilities, and low-income families with young children. Without this supplemental home energy assistance, it would be nearly impossible for many to make it through the long and cold Maine winter. Regarding Head Start and all other WCAP Early Childhood Programs and Services, all programs continue to operate as usual. WCAP provides essential services for families with young children. These comprehensive services allow parents to contribute to the Waldo County workforce, providing employers with the vital human resources needed to operate businesses and organizations countywide, while supporting children’s social, health, educational, and developmental growth.
