Follow Message Edit

The Northeast Arc helps people with disabilities become full participants in the community; choosing for themselves how to live, learn, work, socialize and play. One of the most innovative agencies in the state serving children and adults with disabilities, Northeast Arc was founded in the 1950's by parents with the courage and determination to ensure their children and others with disabilities will always have every opportunity to live and thrive in the community. Over the years, our programs have expanded to support children and adults with a broader range of disabilities, including autism and physical disabilities. Today we sere thousands of people in nearly 190 cities and towns.

Northeast Arc, Inc.

Northeast Arc, Inc., is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting individuals with disabilities by fostering their integration into the community. Founded in 1954 by parents of children with developmental disabilities, the organization has expanded to serve a broader range of disabilities, including autism and physical disabilities.

Mission and Objectives

The mission of Northeast Arc is to empower individuals with disabilities to live, work, and engage fully in their communities by providing a wide array of services and support systems. These services include Autism Services, Day Habilitation, Deaf Services, Early Intervention, Employment Services, Family Support, Personal Care Assistance, Recreation, Residential, and Transition Services[1][2]. The organization aims to create an inclusive environment where individuals can make choices about how to live, learn, work, socialize, and play[1][2].

History and Development

Northeast Arc was established by pioneering families who challenged conventional wisdom about the potential of their children with developmental disabilities. Over the years, the organization has grown to positively impact the lives of thousands of people across nearly 190 communities in Massachusetts[1][2].

The Center for Linking Lives

One of Northeast Arc's notable initiatives is The Center for Linking Lives, a vibrant community space located in Danvers, Massachusetts. This center serves as a resource for individuals with disabilities, providing opportunities for socialization, education, and personal growth. The establishment of this center was made possible through the "Campaign for Linking Lives," which raised over $3 million in donations[2].

Programs and Services

Northeast Arc offers a diverse range of programs designed to meet the varying needs of individuals with disabilities:

  • Autism Services: Providing specialized support for individuals on the autism spectrum.
  • Day Habilitation: Offering daily activities and support for personal development.
  • Deaf Services: Catering to the needs of the deaf community.
  • Early Intervention: Providing early developmental support for young children.
  • Employment Services: Facilitating job training and employment opportunities.
  • Family Support: Offering resources and assistance for families.
  • Personal Care Assistance: Providing aid with daily living tasks.
  • Recreation: Organizing leisure activities to promote social interaction.
  • Residential Services: Supporting independent living through housing options.
  • Transition Services: Assisting in transitions from adolescence to adulthood[1][2].
Financial Structure and Operations

Northeast Arc operates primarily through revenue from program services, which accounts for the majority of its income[3]. The organization is designated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, allowing donations to be tax-deductible[3]. Its financial structure ensures that most funding is allocated to wages and operational expenses to maintain a robust staff and service delivery[3].

Impact and Community Engagement

Northeast Arc impacts the lives of more than 15,000 people across Massachusetts, offering over 300,000 hours of direct nursing support annually[2][4]. The organization advocates for policies that enhance the well-being of individuals with disabilities and supports beneficial partnerships with local community organizations[1][4]. Through its innovative projects and community engagement, Northeast Arc continues to play a crucial role in fostering inclusion and advancing opportunities for people with disabilities in their communities[1][4].
