Beacon Historical Society Established in 1976 the Beacon Historical Society showcases Beacons history through exhibitions collections programs books and an informative monthly newsletter. We dedicate our headquarters as the Robert J. Murphy Research Center in honor of our former president city historian and friend. Beacon Historical Society Winter Recess Although we do not meet in person for our monthly meetings in January or February due to the potential for inclement weather we are planning a special February Zoom program.

The Episcopal Orphan Home In March of 1902 work began on a new orphans’ home being built around the old Seaman homestead on North Avenue. It was to be occupied by the Episcopal Orphans’ Home of New York City, which was to bring about 100 boys and girls here for the summer. The new home was to have a brick wing added to either side of the Seaman home.

Beacon Sets Goal of $481,000 to Raise in Fourth War Loan Drive In early January of 1944, Sgt. Albert Knight of Wodell Street in Beacon succumbed to complications from dengue fever in a California hospital after being transported there from New Guinea. At the time Knight became the tenth Beacon soldier to die in the war (about five dozen more would follow by war's end).
