The Orange County Friendship Circle

Overview

The Orange County Friendship Circle is a non-profit, non-denominational organization dedicated to providing support, friendship, and inclusion to individuals with special needs. It aims to enhance the lives of these individuals and their families by creating a non-judgmental environment where they can feel valued.

Mission

The mission of the Orange County Friendship Circle is to bring happiness and companionship to children and young adults with special needs. This is achieved by celebrating their individuality and providing these individuals with opportunities for social interaction, recreational activities, and educational programs. The organization also offers support and respite to the families of these individuals, striving to bring energy, support, and peace of mind to their lives[1][3][5].

Programs and Activities

The organization provides a wide range of social, recreational, and educational programs designed to help children and young adults with special needs. These programs are complemented by volunteer opportunities for teens, which help build friendships and foster a sense of community among participants. By engaging volunteers in these programs, the Orange County Friendship Circle also enriches the lives of its volunteers by allowing them to experience the rewards of selfless giving[1][3].

Governance

As of 2019, the board of directors included individuals such as Jo Ann Krupp, a community philanthropist, Gerald Werksman, an attorney, and others who contribute their expertise to guide the organization's operations[2].

Impact

The Orange County Friendship Circle continues to adapt its services to the needs of the community. It leverages technology to provide online programs and activities, ensuring that individuals with special needs and their families can access important social interactions even remotely[4]. This approach has been particularly valuable in maintaining social connections during times of isolation.
