1st Nork Scout Group
The 1st Nork Scout Group is a Scout organisation based in the United Kingdom, originally established under registration number 16575 on 20 September 1934 at St Paul’s Church in Nork, Surrey. Initially comprising 17 Scouts and led by D G Smith (Group Scout Master) and W N Meech (Assistant Scout Master), the group held meetings on Warren Road in Banstead, later designated as its official meeting location[^5^]. The group suspended operations during the Second World War and struggled to revive afterward, leading to its official closure in 1947[^5^].
In 1949, the 2nd Nork group, initiated by A S Fitch (the sole surviving member of the original 1st Nork), was re-established as the 1st Nork (St Paul’s) under registration number 22847, formalized by 28 September 1950[^5^]. Leadership transitions included John Robert Charles Knight as Scout Master (1958–1964) and Kevin Michael Titt as Scout Leader from 1974[^5^].
The modern iteration, registered with the Charity Commission (number 1072341), remains active under the Scout Association’s Banstead District. Its current activities focus on youth development through Scouting principles, though historical records indicate intermittent closures and restructuring over its 90-year history[^1^][^4^].
