Friends of Young Achievers Inc
HISTORY The idea for FOYA was formed in the spring of 1999 when the governing body of the Young Achievers, the School Site Council, decided that the Young Achievers Science & Mathematics Pilot School needed extra financial support to really create the programming necessary to achieve its mission. A small group of dedicated people interested in the school came together and formally established FOYA as a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization with a President and a Board of Directors. This group has grown to include school teachers, parents and other community members. FOYA's purpose is to seek public and private dollars to support particular school initiatives. More and more public schools depend on the additional support of private dollars not only to fill in the funding gaps, but also to form partnerships that benefit the entire community. "Public-private" partnerships offer a creative model/solution for funding public education initiatives that would be slow in developing or would not otherwise come into being. FOYA's purpose, therefore, is to seek out and initiate these "public private" partnerships for the benefit of the Young Achievers students, families and staff.
