THE MISSION OF THE ORGANIZATION IS TO PROVIDE PROGRAMS TO ENCOURAGE PARTICIPATION AND ACHIEVEMENT IN THE SPORT OF FIGURE SKATING ON ICE, AND TO SERVE AS THE NYC MEMBER CLUB OF THE UNITED STATES FIGURE SKATING ASSOCIATION, THE NATIONAL GOVERNING BODY IN THE SPORT OF FIGURE SKATING ON ICE AS RECOGNIZED BY THE UNITED STATES OLYMPIC COMMITTEE (USOC), AND THE INTERNATIONAL SKATING UNION (ISU). THE ORGANIZATION ALSO CONDUCTS FIGURE SKATING TESTS AS DEFINED BY THE USFS AND TO ORGANIZE AND SPONSOR COMPETITIONS, EXHIBITIONS AND CLINICS FOR THE PURPOSE OF SERVING THE CLUB'S MEMBERSHIP AND STIMULATING INTEREST IN THE SPORT. LASTLY, THE ORGANIZATION RAISES FUNDS TO ASSIST FINANCIALLY OR OTHERWISE, IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE RULES OF U.S. FIGURE SKATING, CLUB MEMBERS WHO HAVE EXHIBITED SUCCESS IN THE COMPETITIVE ARENA.

The Skating Club of New York Inc., founded in 1863, is the second oldest figure skating club in the United States. It played a significant role in the establishment of the United States Figure Skating Association, being one of the founding members when the organization was formed in 1921.
