📣 Join us in taking action against alternative funding programs (AFPs)! AFPs are used by employer-sponsored commercial health insurance plans as a way to save the plan money by defining specialty medications as non-essential health benefits. Since the plan doesn’t cover these specialty medications, any out-of-pocket costs that you pay won’t count toward your annual deductible or cost-sharing limit. That’s when your health plan tells you to enroll in the AFP, which is operated by a third-party company. The AFP will go to outside sources to pay for the medication, including seeking assistance from manufacturer assistance and charitable programs, like PAN, or illegally important medications from other countries. Here's how you can stand with PAN against AFPs: ✉️ Urge your lawmakers to introduce legislation to ban AFPs using our easy-to-use tool: https://bit.ly/4l172T2 📚 Visit our AFP education hub to learn more about how AFPs prevent access to care and how to recognize them in your health plan: https://bit.ly/4hwkBbb 📣 If you've been impacted by an AFP, share your story to help convey the negative impact AFPs can have on patients and their health: https://bit.ly/4kYcBS4 (fb)

After her Waldenstrom macroglobulinemia (WM) medication became ineffective, Stephanie Horblit feared how to afford her new treatment. She couldn't bear the thought of asking her children for help with the high out-of-pocket costs. Luckily, her oncologist referred her to the PAN Foundation, where she was approved for a grant that makes her copay costs much more manageable. Now, Stephanie wants to share her story and encourage others to learn more about PAN. If you or someone you love has been diagnosed with WM and needs help covering their out-of-pocket costs for treatment, we are here to help. Eligible patients can receive up to $2,000 per year in financial assistance. Learn more and check your eligibility: https://bit.ly/3n6erBq (fb)
