Initially operating from Ruth Libby's home in Scarborough, the organization has grown significantly over the years. It later moved to Bessey School before establishing a large warehouse in Portland. This expansion was facilitated by a combination of grants and donations, including support from Unum and the Maine Department of Education. The current warehouse serves as both a storage facility for surplus materials and a free store where teachers can "shop" for supplies at no cost, provided their schools are members[1][2].

The mission of Ruth's Reusable Resources is to ensure that all students from pre-k through high school have access to the basic supplies and creative tools necessary for literacy, STEAM, and health education. Since its inception, 3R's has donated over $84 million worth of materials, including furniture, paper, books, office supplies, and computers.
