Join the curator, Matthew Terell, for a tour and discussion of the exhibition, “CRUISING IN THE SHADOWS” June 6th at 4pm. "Cruising in the Shadows" uncovers a vital but often overlooked aspect of LGBTQ+ history--the culture of "cruising" in New York City from the 1960s to today. Cruising involves seeking sexual partners in public spaces, often using secret visual codes to express queer desire. It began as an act of defiance, a search for authentic connections, and a celebration of LGBTQ+ identity in an otherwise unfriendly time for queerness. Bio: Matthew Terrell is an Atlanta-based writer, artist, and professor of Media and Entertainment at Kennesaw State University. His work explores queer identity through photography, video, and essays featured in VICE, Huffington Post, and Hyperallergic. Terrell’s art has been exhibited at the Atlanta BeltLine and The National Center for Civil and Human Rights.
